Join us for a special Play & Read Day for young children! We are delighted to welcome a special guest: children’s author Gwendolyn Wallace.

During this delightful two-hour event, she’ll read from (and sign) her book Joy Takes Root, which won the Black Caucus American Library Association’s Best of the Best honor in 2023. The book tells the story of Joy's first summer in her grandmother's Moncks Corner garden. In the midst of okra, spinach, and strawberries, Grammy teaches Joy that plants have many uses. Herbs, for example, can be turned into medicine. Publishers Weekly called it “moving.”

Also on offer: a planting activity guided by the author for children to take home. Space is limited to 30 families, so sign up now! One (free) ticket per family.

Earth Day Play & Read

Join us for a special edition of Earth Day for young children: where we will countdown to kindergarten!

For two hours, on the sun-dappled grounds of this organic farm & native plant nursery, young children will enjoy children’s activities, a bilingual storytime, and tips for parents on preparing a child for kindergarten.

Space is limited to 30 families, with one (free) ticket per family.

Families with young children were invited to join us at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens' conservatory from 10 AM to 12 PM Sunday, June 4 to celebrate Earth Day with their young children in the early days of summer! Children enjoyed different stations with play activities, a bilingual storytime, and touring the gardens at the end with their families. Parents enjoyed talks with our team about our play podcasts and what else we can offer them and their children at no cost to them. Space was limited to 25 families, with one (free) ticket per family.

Family Play Day

Families were invited to join us at Ashley River Park in Summerville from 9 to 11 AM Saturday, May 20! Young children explored cultures around the world through games and fun activities. 

A child may not be able to find a country on a map (yet!) but teaching her/him about all kinds of cultures is no more complicated than playing a game! Remember that laughter needs no translation.

Space was limited to 30 families, with one (free) ticket per family.

Family Play Day

Families with young children were invited to join us from 9 to 11 AM Saturday, March 25 for a fun bubble bar- and bubbles-making workshop! We met at Lush's Mount Pleasant Towne Centre shop an hour before it opened to the public.

Play-based activities focused on products from fresh, organic fruit and vegetables (aligning with our children's health values) were on offer too. The children had a wonderful play-learning time! See the pictures.

Growing up and seeing the magic that happens when a tiny seed is planted or when a worm works to create our rich & healthy soil, watching logs turn into fires that cook pizzas, and gathering flowers on walks is just part of the wonder of being a farm baby! Now your child could feel some of this too. During the second edition of this six-week program, families were invited to visit each Friday with their young children to explore this urban farm and enjoy learning, play, fun, and storytime with new friends.

2022 Family Field Day of Play

All Berkeley County, Dorchester County, and Charleston County families with young children were invited to join us and 100+ other families for the 2022 FAMILY FIELD DAY OF PLAY! Participants enjoyed field day games like the parachute ball toss & hula hoop contests, fun with STEM and the creative arts, the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry’s Pop Up Tinker Shop, live bunny snuggles from Grow With the Flow Homestead, free book giveaways, and much more.

Families with young children were invited to join us for a Family Play Day at Fresh Future Farm. This interactive farm day, limited to only 12 spots, included a tour to see where our food comes from, tastings, and a gardening activity for families to take home and watch grow. All enjoyed exploring this urban farm, which is on a mission to grow the quality of life for historically excluded communities and end food apartheid. See the photos!

Families with children were invited to join us for a Day of Play at The Gibbes Museum of Art. Kids enjoyed two hours discovering & learning at the museum with their families, including free museum passes to come back & explore the museum on their own, and the live recording of an episode of our play podcast!

Families with children were invited to join us and Y2O for a Family Play Day! Kids enjoyed a two-hour surfing, fishing, and educational experience, starting off with very beginner surf lessons in shallow areas and casting nets to explore marine life.
